The single „The Ballad of Daniel Dawson“ was recorded, mixed and produced by Louise in the attic during lockdown as a project to keep morale up during a tricky time. Although Louise has been in plenty of studios over the years, this is the first time she has produced her own music and learned how to use a DAW pretty much from scratch. The Song tells a true story of a young man who was convicted of poisoning horses to fix the races in the town of Newmarket where this singel and the forthcoming album were recorded. He was hanged at Castle Hill prison in Cambridge in 1812. The song is sung from the point of view of the judge but it does focus on the injustice and rather harsh penalties of the time and gives Daniel Dawson a posthumous voice when he says, „I smell hypocrisy.“ and, „I’m just one cheat among many.“ So we have to say Achtung: With a great mixture of folk, indie and rock the track is on the roll to tell you a story, so listen carefully.
