Listen NOW! – March

Winter Gardens – „ANTHROPOCENE“
„ANTHROPOCENE“ is a critical reflection on human values and priorities. WINTER GARDENS challenges us to think about the long-term consequences of our actions and to recognize the true meaning and cost of our current lifestyle. The challenge is to find ways in which we, as a society, can act more sustainably and responsibly to protect both the environment and the well-being of all living beings. Musically, they hang over the landscape like a mist, creating a fantastic backdrop with shoegaze meets post-punk that characterizes the song.

Tobias Carshey – „They own you“
In response to the invasion of Ukraine, Tobias Carshey composed the poignant and thought-provoking song ‘They Own You’. With new wave influences and a driving beat, the indie song captures the helplessness experienced when enemy troops invade our homes and turn our world upside down. The ubiquitous war-related headlines in the global media have become a major issue.

„Was Du Sagst“ – monocene
Emotionale Transformation in musikalischer Form, könnte man sagen. „Was Du Sagst“ von monocene ist rohe Energie gepaart mit emotionaler Tiefe und ein künstlerisches Statement mit universeller Resonanz.

„Coyote Run“ – Peasant / Damien DeRose
The artist Damien DeRose (alias Peasant) tragically passed away 10 years ago. Producer Joe Ujj took it upon himself to sift through almost 400 songs and make them available to us as a kind of obituary. Joe and other Peasant fans have added instruments to the stripped-down songs, breathing new life into them, and the result is stunning. I think Damien would be proud to hear it. ‘Coyote Run’ is just one of the songs on ‘Lost Recordings Part Three,’ and it inspires me once again. My thanks also go to Damien’s mum for making this possible. All proceeds go to a non-profit that she started in 2017: http://www.stillsinging.org

‚Not Enough Time‘ – The Octopus Division
Fine Retro electro-pop is once again delivered by The Octopus Division in his track ‘Not Enough’. The song serves as an emotional reflection on the transience of time, the pursuit of freedom and true connection, as well as the challenge of resisting external expectations. It exudes a mood that is both melancholic and combative. Synthpop heart – what more could you ask for?

Phil Fortin – „Nightwatchers“
With ‚Nightwatchers‘ PHIL FORTIN offers us one of his best tracks, which I would categorize as dark post-punk pop of the early ’80s. Both the vocals and the sound arrangement reinforce this genre classification. The melancholic melodies prove that you don’t need exaggerated drums to sound good, and the repetitive bass perfectly complements the mood of the night watchmen. The only thing I’m still waiting for is to add it to our playlist, as, as far as I know, it’s only available on SoundCloud and YouTube.

„Hey Love, Stay For a While (live)“ – The Frenchy Captains
The Frenchy Captains have dropped anchor with us again and deliver a new live track, ‚Hey Love, Stay For A While‘, that has what it takes to make anyone’s day. Catchy as hell, it enchants the listener and forces them to sing along. Definitely one of the musical highlights of the month for me! Once heard, this song will be stuck in your head for days!

„Technosaurus“ – nyxotype
nyxotype and the playful experiment ‘Technosaurus’: avant-garde electro-pop inspired by a quirky dinosaur installation. The uncanny drift through the jungle of the present; the past becomes the future. ‘Technosaurus’ by nyxotype is, once again, very edgy but still manages to please!

‘Reason To Run’ – Stephen McCafferty
‚Reason to Run‘, the latest release by Stephen McCafferty, looks at the search for meaning, faith and doubt, creating a haunting picture of existential reflection. The lyrics – inspired by a dream in which books are burned after a night of drinking Norwegian whisky – symbolise the radical act of letting go of old beliefs and thought patterns to make room for something new. It’s a song that makes you think differently and challenges what you think is real and what’s not. It’s a folk-pop story that speaks to the current moment.

‘1997’ – Matthew Mirliani
The sonic story reflects on immigration and captures the experience of setting off in the morning on an uncertain adventure. In ‘1997,’ Matthew Mirliani merges the past and the future into a single piece. The sorrow of farewell gradually fades into the unknown, leaving us in awe. A cinematic, experimental track that truly earns the grade ‘well done.’
