Dream Bodies is a subtle fusion of post-punk, darkwave and dreampop, in which Steven Fleet unfolds a sonic reflection between past and present.

The pulsating bassline and expansive synthesiser sounds create an atmosphere of uncertainty and new beginnings. Lyrically speaking, the composition can be regarded as a poetic rumination on the act of relinquishing one’s hold on the past and yearning for that which lies beyond reach; ‚Don’t Look Back‘ explores themes such as memory, loss, and the futility of attempting to reclaim bygone moments. The request ‘Don’t look back’ runs through the text like a mantra and indicates an attempt to dedicate oneself to the future instead of dwelling on nostalgia. Figurative language reinforces the feeling of expectation and forlornness, while ‘Une saison en enfer’ is a possible allusion to Rimbaud’s work – an existential crisis. The question of the ‘other side’ makes the song waver between hope and resignation: will something be waiting for us there? The stars as the final decision-making authority emphasise the uncertainty of fate.
And so ‘Don’t Look Back’ becomes a sonic manifesto that captures the tension between past and future through memory and loss and calls for unstoppable progress with melancholic depth and hypnotic energy.
