“The Great Escape” by Rogue FX
It’s that time again: Rogue FX is launching a new release that contains almost more ’80s vibes than many an ’80s hit. ‘The Great Escape’ is the name of that wonderful piece Andrew made glow in his synthpop forge, giving us a little masterpiece. For me, it’s one of the best releases he’s put out to date, as it hits the nerve of the times and also pays homage to nostalgia—pure synthpop renaissance, so to speak.

In terms of content, ‘The Great Escape’ unfolds an artful web of inner conflicts and social commentary. The way that feeling unsatisfied and missing out on things influences how we live is described in really intense emotional detail. At the same time, there’s a tension between wanting to be close and feeling independent, which shows the inner conflict between closeness and being yourself.
The lyrics are a reminder of the challenges we face every day, and how sometimes we feel so down that we want a new beginning. Even when you’re feeling totally knackered and down in the dumps, there’s a glimmer of hope that helps you move on from the past and believe in a fresh start.
The play acts as a mirror of human experience and gives the inner conflict a universal dimension, reflecting both the fragility of the individual and their unshakeable courage in times of darkness. He wraps all of this in a contemporary electronic-meets-synthpop environment in which the bassline, chord progression, vocals, and arrangement totally convinced me. ‘The Great Escape’ by Rogue FX – available now!
