‘Taste of Sand’ by Pat Carter

am

… is a dark symphony of survival in which the playground becomes a battlefield and innocence crumbles under the weight of cruel realities. The motif of a relentless cycle of oppression, disguised as inevitability, is characterised by the presence of such imagery as sand and blood.

Pat Carter criticises the illusion of justice and reveals a world in which some are destined to be victims even before they have had a chance to assert themselves. It is a lament and an act of rebellion, a silent curse against the powers that decide who suffers and who survives. Is it fate or just an indifferent machine that continues to turn, unimpressed by the cries of the dead?

Musically, ‘Taste of Sand’ moves between dream pop and rootsy Americana, on the one hand almost too romantic in sound, on the other hand the instrumental creates hope and reflects or emphasises the message of the song once again. An outstanding release!
