With Dream Bodies, Steven Fleet unveils a fascinating soundscape that unfolds like an artfully curated ritual between post-punk tradition and esoteric reflection. The debut EP Circle of Light is not just a mere musical litter but rather a deliberately staged space of passage – a “liminal space” – in which motifs of transcendence, memory and initiation overlap.
The focus is on the title track “Circle of Light”, a lyrically and compositionally charged climax that poeticizes the ambivalence of human existence through an occult vocabulary with lines such as “Death on your left and life on the right / Kneeling within a circle of light”. The music does not function as a mere accompaniment but as a transcendent texture that transforms the listener into a kind of musical psychopomp: a guided passage between the spheres.
Fleet audibly draws his aesthetic from the dark melancholy and cathartic beauty of bands such as The Chameleons or Clan of Xymox but forms his very own symbolic sound language from it. Circle of Light is a manifesto – a musical-mystical gesture that invites contemplative exploration of light, shadow and the spaces in between.
