With his new EP, ‚F.O.M.O‘, released today, New Zealand musician Tarn PK has succeeded in creating an introspective seismograph of emotional states in a digitally overloaded world. Acting as a musical chronicler of a generation caught between sensory overload and loss of self, he interweaves stylistic diversity with psychological depth.
The album’s introductory piece, entitled ‚F.O.M.O‘, employs a multifaceted lyrical structure, rhythmic interludes, and breakbeats to articulate the internal discord between self-acceptance and the societal expectation to perform. ‚Cry Baby‘ is characterised by synthetic elegance and vibraphonic lightness, and is regarded as an emotional release. The song draws its strength from the acceptance of imperfection.
In ‚Turns into Custard‘, Tarn PK explores the metaphor of dissolution in depth. The resigned line ‚It all turns into custard‘ is a bittersweet expression of disappointed hopes, embedded in psychedelic, calm alternative pop. The composition entitled ‚Sleep Walking‘ can be considered a poetic reflection on the phenomenon of emotional exhaustion, and it is suggested that it offers the listener an escape from the automatism of everyday life.
‚Like Water Sinking‘ leads into melancholy depths; the water imagery is not only aesthetic, but also an expression of inner drowning. The final track, ‚Comfy‘, transforms the restlessness depicted earlier into a sense of quiet acceptance. This is not a euphoric triumph, but rather a gentle acceptance of the present moment.
Tarn PK’s ‚F.O.M.O‘ is not just a musical cycle, but a contemplative journey through the spaces in between. With emotional precision and stylistic depth, he creates a sonic refuge that will move, if not change, the listener.
