‘Limerence’ – Dream Bodies

‘Limerence,’ the sixth single from Dream Bodies, marks a subtle but decisive shift: less guitar-driven, less overtly darkwave, but with a translucent post-punk sheen and floating synth highs reminiscent of New Order’s melodic economy and The Cure’s crystalline romanticism. This elegant surface contrasts productively with the darker undercurrents: Joy Division-esque lyrics that expose the psychodynamics of idealised infatuation—projection, self-deception, the inevitable crash into the concrete of reality. Figuratively, warmth tips into coldness, spaces freeze, closeness remains physical, not emotional; the motif of light appears as the afterglow of a long-extinguished core. Production and performance keep their distance: a dry, stoic pulse, synth pads as supporting statics, guitars as fine contours, vocals restrained, almost clinical but yet with a warm touch—an aesthetic decision against pathos in favour of precise disillusionment. The result is a song that is both seductive and unsettling: catchy enough to attract new listeners, hard enough in its message to burn longer.
