Synthetic Calls – ISAAKIANS

With Synthetic Calls, ISAAKIANS create a dense, instinctive soundscape in which harp, keyboards and drums communicate with each other like elemental forces. The production confidently balances organic melodies and electronic textures; voices merge into a three-part echo that both whispers and conjures. Rhythmically, the piece acts like a pulse that oscillates between solemn waves and spasmodic outbursts and becomes physically palpable. The lyrics deal with existential emptiness and the search for a counterpart who recognises one’s inner core; images of role-playing, physical dance and tinnitus-like cries lend the voice an ambivalent mixture of comfort and torment. The self-attribution as a ‘good boy’ seems vulnerable and conditioned, and the final departure from false humanity increases the urgency of the expression. In terms of sound aesthetics, influences from Björk, Kate Bush and Sigur Rós are audible, but the band forms an independent, avant-garde identity from them. Synthetic Calls is an intense, atmospheric piece that explores closeness, obsession and loss of self, appealing to both the ear and the body.
