“Late Libation”, the third and final single ahead of their debut album The Ghost & The Rhythm, showcases Wuzy Bambussy at their very best: at the intersection of funk, R&B and rock, where raw energy and subtle nuances feed off one another. Kat Harrison and Nikolai Jones, rooted in the West Country yet always with one foot outside every genre boundary, have created a track here that feels earthy, playful and combative all at once. The song begins with a staccato-like bass that revs up like an engine beneath the surface, whilst crisp rimshots set the pulse. Harrison uses this space to stretch her voice between seduction, warning and a sense of departure. When the guitars then burst open and the drums thunder into the chorus, it feels as though the track is pulling itself out of the shadows. The line “Tell the DJ at the station, this is the Bambussy sound” marks this moment like a banner. Typical of Bambussy are the grooves that are both rousing and leave a slight unease – as if sitting on a fairground carousel spinning just a little too fast. “Late Libation” is a toast to those still standing, and a salute to those who are missing.
