Hafta As – Ullrson, DVARA

am

Ullrson’s Viking-techno version of DVARA’s ‘Hafta As’ reimagines ritual music from a radically dancefloor-oriented perspective. Whilst the original drifts through spiritual imagery, the remix draws everything into a physical, pulsating space: kick drums like blacksmith’s hammers, bass pressure like a gathering storm, and above it all, archaic voices cutting through the mist like a mantra. The organic elements – throat singing, female lead vocals, tagelharpa, gusle – remain as distinctive textures, yet in a club setting they feel like signals from another era, blending perfectly with the modern intensity. Ullrson works with a techno-inspired foundation that not only supports but propels: a groove that builds slowly, then tips forward with full force, plunging the dance floor into a ceremonial state of emergency. The rhythmic dramaturgy is particularly powerful: breaks that feel like pauses for breath before the next beat, drops that open up the space, and a mid-section pull that transforms the archaic motifs into pure energy. The mythological bridge between Scythian and Nordic archery traditions becomes here a club-ready arc of tension – an arrow that strikes right at the heart of the dance floor.
