They Pour, You Drink – Of All Things

With “They Pour, You Drink”, Of All Things make a powerful statement: driving guitars, melodic tension and more bite create a sound that lies somewhere between 90s alternative and noise. The first single from the EP A Catalogue Of Bitter Ends comes across as deliberately unpolished, more direct and energetic, thus forging a clear link to their debut without getting bogged down in nostalgia. Written out of frustration and anger, the song is directed against political rhetoric, marketing and the manufactured needs of a privileged upper class. Musically, the band combines Kent-style melancholy, Foals-style rhythmic drive and the raw edge of Sonic Youth to create a modern, uncompromising alternative rock sound that feels both familiar and forward-looking.

My Marie – Lars Bygdén

In ‘My Marie’, Lars Bygdén presents an intimate, nostalgic country ballad which, although it begins simply, immediately captures the listener’s attention with its deep warmth and subtle melancholy; recorded in a single take, the track conveys the immediacy of a moment that cannot be repeated, and it is precisely this that lends it its poignancy. Mandolin and strings weave an organic, Nordic-tinged Americana texture, whilst the mix gives the arrangement room to breathe and the laid-back groove, carried by a voice that remains vulnerable, never veers into excess. The result is a quiet sanctuary, a personal piece whose simplicity and emotional clarity impressively highlight the artist’s narrative range.

Children of The Sun – Aric Coyote

Aric Coyote’s ‘Children of The Sun’ comes across as an Americana-indie-folk song that does not settle for simple platitudes of hope, but instead conjures up a future that can only be realised through collective action. As the warm country layers intertwine with a folky undercurrent, a sense of new beginnings emerges – one that is all the more compelling precisely because it has emerged from crises: from moments when people re-evaluate their lives, pull together and share responsibility. The idea of humanity passing on light and warmth runs like a quiet pulse through the track, making us feel that a tomorrow worth living for does not simply appear, but grows as we shape it together.
