Groza – Rozha

In ‘Groza’, Rozha blends post-punk, gothic rock and darkwave into a sombre, unsettling sound. Driving rhythms and cold synthesisers lend the track a raw edge, beneath which a certain tension remains palpable throughout. The lyrics tell the story of a person who has bowed to those in power and, in doing so, lost their convictions. Paris, once a place of shared memories, has now become almost unbearable. Behind the personal disappointment lies a growing anger at a system that promises freedom but controls people and keeps them in a state of dependence, until that frustration gives rise to a desire to rebel against the existing power structures. In ‘Groza’, Rozha makes no secret of which side the band is on: against those who exercise their power at the expense of others.

Disconnected – Phil Fortin

In ‘Disconnected’, Phil Fortin draws on the dark electro sound of the 1990s and combines it with a palpable sense of inner turmoil that runs through the entire song, reflecting the feeling of increasingly losing touch with oneself and the outside world. Thoughts seem to race through the mind; nothing is clear-cut any more, and even one’s own perception becomes increasingly uncertain. The fragmented lines of lyrics fit this perfectly, as if individual thoughts were surfacing only to vanish back into the chaos almost immediately. Phil Fortin does not attempt to explain or resolve everything. Rather, he leaves the uncertainty intact, thereby creating an oppressive atmosphere reminiscent of the darker side of 1990s electronic music.

2007 – DichtBoi

Mit ‘2007’ zeigt DichtBoi, wie man mit wenigen Mitteln eine dichte Atmosphäre erzeugen kann. Ein minimalistischer elektronischer Beat, Synths und trockene Drums treffen auf seine direkten Rap-Vocals. Musikalisch bewegt sich das Ganze zwischen alternativem Hip-Hop und düsterem Pop, melancholisch, hypnotisch und mit einer ordentlichen Portion unterschwelliger Wut. Inhaltlich geht es um Erinnerungen und Situationen, die sich immer wiederholen. Man kennt das Spiel, weiß genau, was als Nächstes passiert, und schafft es trotzdem nicht, etwas zu ändern. Genau dieses Gefühl bringt DichtBoi ehrlich und ungeschönt rüber. ‘2007’ ist ein persönlicher Track über alte Muster, festgefahrene Gedanken und den Versuch, endlich aus ihnen auszubrechen.
